As the industry is embroiled in the worst economic crisis of a generation, the use of portfolio stress testing (“sensitivity shocks”) can help banks identify dangerous vulnerabilities and potential capital shortfall in their portfolios. By segmenting the portfolio into key CRE property types and C & I industry categories, and then simulating the impact of loss of income or collateral value on those borrowers, banks can get a directionally correct view of their potential critical areas to address as the crisis unfolds.

There has NEVER been a crisis in the USA where “non-essential” businesses were forced to shut down nationwide. The root cause of this crisis isn’t an asset bubble like the great recession – it’s a public health emergency that is inflicting havoc on the entire U.S. economy. So are community and regional banks prepared and equipped to employ “Credit Risk Management Best Practices for COVID-19” or any other pandemic that comes our way?

This program qualifies for 1.5 CRC CEU credits.
