Our Distinguished Moderator and Panelists:

Moderator -  Nick Sly

Nicholas Sly is Vice President and Denver Branch Executive at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. In this role, he serves as the Bank’s regional economist and its representative in the states of Colorado, Wyoming and in northern New Mexico. Mr. Sly works closely with the Branch’s board of directors and is responsible for briefing the President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City on economic conditions in the Denver branch’s region.

Before joining the Bank in 2015, Mr. Sly was associate professor of economics at the University of Oregon. He graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in mathematics and economics and earned his Ph.D. in economics from Michigan State University. Mr. Sly is also a graduate of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking.

 

Anita Hoppal

Anita Hoppal is the Assistant Deputy Comptroller (ADC) in the Comptroller of the Currency’s Denver Office. As ADC, Anita manages a team of examiners and is responsible for the supervision of 18 community banks located in Colorado, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, and Wyoming. She has served in this role since April 2024. Previously, Anita managed a team of enterprise governance, operational risk, and information technology specialists who worked in community, midsize, and large institutions located across the country; served as ADC in the San Francisco Office; and spent 12 years as an examiner and team leader in the Denver Office. Anita graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and from The Ohio State University with a Master of Accounting.

 

Bill Kelver

Bill Kelver is an Assistant Vice President in the Supervision and Risk Management Division at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. Bill joined the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City in 2010 following 11 years in various leadership roles at commercial banks. At the Kansas City Fed, Bill has held multiple examiner and leadership roles in the consumer affairs and safety and soundness areas of the Division.  Bill was recently appointed Assistant Vice President with responsibility over Denver’s community bank safety and soundness supervision team. Bill holds a B.S. degree in Business Management and a B. A. degree in Journalism from the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, Colorado and has completed the Graduate School of Banking program at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin.

 

Jeff McDonald

Jeff McDonald has nearly 33 of regulatory banking experience with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).  Since 2017, he has been the Field Supervisor for Risk Management Supervision (RMS) in the Denver Field Territory, which encompasses both Colorado and New Mexico. Previously, Jeff served for over twelve years as the Field Supervisor in the Cedar Rapids, Iowa Field Office, after completing stints as an examiner in Springfield, Missouri, and Denver, Colorado.  Mr. McDonald holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska-Kearney, and he graduated with Special Honors from the Graduate School of Banking at Colorado in Boulder in 2003.
