Description

Participation in this 2 hour course will help to prepare you in identifying danger, countering a physical attack or confrontation, and effecting an escape. We will discuss proper stance and body positioning, the best way to employ hand, foot, knee, and elbow strikes, using verbal skills, and also using counter-joint techniques to break free from a wrist or hair hold. We will also learn the basics of compliance, non-compliance, what to do if the attacker is armed, and the psychology of an attacker.

Deputy Chris Johnston, Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, has 12 years of experience in law enforcement, including response and investigations of burglary, assault, robbery, theft, homicide, traffic, drugs, sex crimes, and various domestic violence crimes.  Currently assigned to the Crime Prevention Unit for the City of Spokane Valley, he maintains certification as an emergency vehicle operations instructor, Crisis Intervention Team, and public instruction on topics such as personal safety, self-defense, workplace violence prevention, active shooter survival, crime 
prevention through environmental design, and verbal de-escalation techniques.

Participants should be free from pre-existing physical injuries, and will be required to sign a waiver of liability at the beginning of class. Attire is workout or gym clothes, with athletic shoes. 

Cost includes beverages and a light snack.
