Pierre Cleroux, Vice President, Research & Chief Economist, BDC

Pierre Cléroux was appointed Vice President, Research and Chief Economist at BDC in 2012.

Pierre leads a team of experts who analyze economic data to identify business and sector trends impacting Canadian entrepreneurs. A seasoned speaker, he helps business owners understand the risks and opportunities presented by the economic environment.

Mr. Cléroux is also responsible for providing economic analysis and advice to the Bank’s senior management team, and supervises all marketing and industry research activities. Over his 25-year career as an economist, he has held several influential positions that had a direct impact on entrepreneurs in Canada and abroad.


Nick Bennebroek, Managing Director, International 
Economist, Wells Fargo Corporate and Investment Banking, Wells Fargo & Company

Nick Bennenbroek is a managing director and international economist for Wells Fargo’s Corporate and Investment Bank, based in New York. With more than two decades of experience as a market economist and in policy analysis, Nick provides commentary on global macroeconomic developments and foreign exchange markets through several Wells Fargo publications, with a focus on both developed and emerging economies. Nick’s analysis of international economics, central banks and currency markets helps to support clients as they operate in global markets. Nick also appears frequently on business television and in media such as Bloomberg and CNBC, and his research is often quoted in financial publications such as The Wall Street Journal.

Prior to his current position, Nick was a senior currency strategist at Brown Brothers Harriman in New York. He began his career as an analyst with the New Zealand Treasury in 1994. He then spent six years as an international economist for Bankers Trust and Deutsche Bank in London, New York, and Auckland, New Zealand.


Bryan Yu, Chief Economist, Central 1

As Central 1’s Chief Economist, Bryan Yu leads a team conducting macro- and regional economic analysis for the organization and the broader credit union system. He authors many of the team’s flagship economic and housing outlook reports and weekly notes. Bryan speaks regularly at credit union and industry events and is frequently contacted by media to provide national and provincial economic commentary.

He also leads Central 1’s Economics

Centre and IFRS9 national platform business lines and sits on various Central 1 risk and treasury committees. Bryan joined Central 1 in 2010, and previously worked as a housing economist for the BC Real Estate Association, CMHC, and conducted academic researcher in immigration economics. Bryan holds a MA in Economics from Simon Fraser University and a BA from the University of Manitoba. He serves on the boards of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. the B.C. Paraplegic Foundation and the Canadian Association for Business Economics.

James Moore, PC, MA , Senior Business Advisor, Dentons Canada LLP

The Honourable James Moore is a Senior Business Advisor in Dentons' Government Affairs and Public Policy group. Based in Vancouver, he provides strategic advice on government affairs, regulatory affairs and public policy to local, provincial, national and international clients across a variety of industries.

With an impressive career as a senior cabinet minister in the Government of Canada, an intimate knowledge of Canada’s business community and an extensive public policy background, James is one of the country’s most sought-after analysts and speakers on issues related to government affairs, public policy, national and international trade policy, digital policy, data economy, public affairs, risk analysis, privacy, and Canadian and American politics. James is an esteemed member of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) Council for the Government of Canada, a frequent public speaker, as well as a high-profile media commentator for CBC, CTV, BNN Bloomberg and other media outlets on a wide variety of public policy matters.

James spent 15 years as a Member of Parliament before joining Dentons, providing him with tremendous insight into Canada’s increasingly complex policy and regulatory landscape. He has earned an outstanding reputation over his years spent in government, most notably as Minister of Industry where he oversaw a wide range of Canada’s public policy decisions and led a team responsible for the Canada Space Agency, Canada Tourism Commission, Business Development Bank of Canada, Statistics Canada, National Research Council of Canada, Canadian Radio-television & Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), Canada Foundation for Innovation and other prominent organizations.

Born and raised in British Columbia, James has served as Minister of Canadian Heritage & Official Languages, Secretary of State for the Asia Pacific Gateway and Minister for the 2010 Olympics. James was the youngest Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister in British Columbia’s history, third youngest Cabinet Minister in Canadian history, and has been recognized as "One of the 50 Most Important People in Canada” by Macleans. He also served as the Senior Regional Minister for the province of British Columbia, the youngest person to do in Canadian history. He is a past member of the Trilateral Commission and was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.

In addition, James is a corporate director, sits on the Panel of Senior Advisors to Canada’s Auditor General and is the national vice-chair of the Canadian Cancer Society. He serves on the boards of the Business Council of BC and the Canada China Business Council, and was the sixth Chancellor of the University of Northern British Columbia.
