Lending to Medical and Dental Practices provides the knowledge and skills needed to make informed lending decisions when considering an application from a medical or dental practice. This course focuses on identifying different forms of practice organizations, current issues and trends facing physicians, dentists, hospitals, and payers, analyzing and valuing group medical and dental practices, and structuring loans for these practices.

This course is designed for credit analysts, loan review personnel, and lenders as well as other commercial banking professionals who are involved in lending to medical and dental practices. Participants need to understand cash flow and how it helps determine a borrower’s ability to repay loans. The course is structured for individuals who are acquainted with financial accounting and the basic disciplines of financial analysis.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Lisa McKinnon has over 30 years’ experience in commercial banking, primarily focused on the health care industry. She is presently senior credit officer, healthcare for CapStar Bank, responsible for CapStar’s healthcare portfolio consisting of for-profit and not-for-profit borrowers representing virtually every segment in the healthcare industry.

Prior to joining CapStar, Lisa was responsible for the corporate-wide healthcare initiatives at three institutions: First American National Bank (now Regions Bank); Michigan National Bank (now Bank of America); and Citizens Bank (MI, now Huntington Bank). In each case, Lisa developed healthcare underwriting guidelines and directed the delivery of all credit and non-credit products and services to healthcare providers throughout each institution’s footprint. Most recently, Lisa served as senior credit officer for healthcare, education, and general not-for-profit credits at TD Bank.

Lisa was one of the original steering committee members of RMA’s annual Health Care Conference (now the Health Care Lending Forum), and chaired the third such Conference in 1999. She currently teaches Lending to Medical and Dental Practices and Lending to the Long-Term Care Industry, and has spearheaded revisions to the latter course for RMA.

Lisa received a B.A. in Economics and Business Administration from Vanderbilt University and an M.B.A. in Finance from Vanderbilt’s Owen Graduate School of Management.
